Motorized Scooters

A wide variety of motorized and electric scooters are being purchased in our area. These scooters have not been certified to comply with federal motor vehicle standards and are not intended for on-highway operation. According to Wisconsin Law, these scooters are considered motor vehicles and cant be registered or titled, falling in the category of "play vehicles".

Therefore, the only place these scooters can be legally operated is on private property, private roads, and private driveways. These scooters cant be operated on any roadway within the Village, including the right-of-way (ditches), or on sidewalks.

A person is subject to a fine of up to $156.20 including costs for operating these scooters on the road. The parents of a child can be cited for permitting a child to operate these scooters on a roadway and will be subject to a fine up to $143.80 including costs.

The Police Department is receiving ongoing complaints of persons riding these scooters on the Village roadways. Operating these scooters on a roadway is illegal and unsafe. For your safety and the safety of others using our roadways, please obey the law and do not ride or allow anyone to ride these scooters on our roadways.
